The Hardware :

The Computer

Let’s start with the beginning :

To be able to make the flight simulator works, it will have to be installed on a Computer. The more expensive it is, the better it is To have a maximum of details and quallity textures, you will need a Graphic Card able to generate a maximum of detail while keeping the best Frame Rate possible (Usualy more than 20 is enough on Flight Simulation. More than 30 is excellent).

your eyes sees in a fluid way at 24images/second. Lower than that, what you see starts to be jerked. Less than 15 FPS (Frame Per Second), your flight is completely jerked and is not any more pleasant.

It will also be necessary for you to invest in a good RAM with high power. 32 Go of RAM is excellent, 64 it is a must. Beyond, not big interest, your simulator will not use it.

I thus opted for the following configuration :

Computer for the Garmin 1000 + Instructor Station

  • Mother Board : Asus RAMPAGE IV EXTREME
  • Processor : Intel Core i7-4950X (3.6 GHz)
  • Cooling system : Watercooling
  • Memory : 32 Go – Kington HyperX 2400MHZ DDR3
  • Graphic card : Nvidia TITAN Black
  • SSD Windows : Samsung Série 840 EVO, 250 Go
  • SSD G1000 & Instructor Station : Samsung Série 840 EVO, 1000 Go
  • HDD : 2 x 2 To HDD
  • Power : COOLER MASTER 750W

Computer for the Simulation views (linked to the Video-projector and the 2 screens for the side views) :

  • Motherboard : Asus ROG STRIX X99 GAMING
  • Processor : Intel Core i7-6900K (3.2 GHz)
  • Cooling system : Corsair H110i Hydro Series
  • Memory : 64 Go DDR4 G.Skill Trident Z, 3200 Mhz
  • Graphic card : Nvidia 1080 Ti
  • SSD for Windows : Samsung Série 850 EVO, 500 Go
  • SSD for Simulation : Samsung Série 850 EVO, 1000 Go
  • Power : Corsair HX750i, 750W (Platinium)

Garmin 1000 Software :

  • For P3D : Flight1 It’s a must have in term of G1000 Simulation
  • For X-Plane : Glass Cockpit – Project Magenta Work with XPWide Client (and XPUIPC) but also with WideFS and FSUIPC (P3D). Very good software too.

Instructor Station : FS-Flight Control
